We met Raymond at our first ever Kambo ceremony. He was hosting the ceremony, and holding space, but was not applying the medicine. He spoke on the phone with both Joe and I and addressed all of our concerns with such empathy and understanding, that he helped us both to dissolve quite a few years of built up apprehension! We were both adamant yet even more hesitant, and missed quite a few opportunities to experience this medicine. If it weren't for Raymond speaking with us over the phone, on multiple occasions prior, we might still be fearful. He explained everything very well, from the process of the application to the biological effects. During this first ceremony, where he was present to assist the practitioner, we felt fully supported and safe. He seemed to be fully in tune with every single person in the room. He was attentive to everyone's needs and didn't miss a beat. When someone needed support, he was right there. He was incredibly calm, yet fast and efficient during the ceremony. We were both drawn to learn more, or work more with him after this ceremony.
Receiving Kambo medicine from Raymond is a powerful experience, at least it was for me, and also my husband Joe. This work isn't for the faint of heart, so when I found a practitioner-before Raymond that I felt safe with, I wasn't adamant to try someone new. However, my husband had worked with Raymond before me, and was raving about the experience he had with him for weeks. His enthusiasm was so authentic that I knew I had to give it a try. My husband, Joe, couldn't fully articulate why he loved the experience with Raymond. It was just one of those many things in life that are "beyond words."
It was only Joe and I the first time I received Kambo from Raymond. It was a tight container and it was perfect! I actually had a unique reaction to the rapé (shamanic snuff) before even receiving the kambo. Initially, I was feeling guilty for holding up the process, though Raymond was just as I remembered from the first time we'd met. He was completely calm, present and did not rush me at all. He told me to take my time and just be with the experience. I was completely light headed and feeling ungrounded immediately after the rapé. It took quite some time to feel settled, and Raymond just held the container so well! Prior to this, we spent time really being intentional with the ceremony. Raymond's demeanor is just so tranquil and peaceful!
Kambo medicine can be a very intense experience and to have someone like Raymond holding space is truly a gift. Feeling safe and at ease is so important! He also holds the medicine with great reverence, and honors the practice as sacred, which I feel is of the utmost importance. I highly recommend experiencing this medicine with Raymond!
As I journey along my life's path, I had plateaued in vocation and relationships. Then about a year ago I ran into some pretty hard blocks that I was not sure how to overcome. Part of the obstacle was not knowing what the blocks were, what was my mental/ emotional blindspot? After doing some research I thought Kambo might bring these blocks to the surface. Well, be mindful of what you wish for, because you will receive.
I remember Raymond's and I's first conversation. Through the phone, I could feel his desire to help those on their spiritual journey. His compassion and understanding helped me feel safe that I could approach these mental and emotional challenges in a closed container of presence and support.
I sat with him three days in a row to receive the full inoculation. Not going to lie, it's not the most comfortable feeling in the world, but absolutely worth it. After leaving on day one I felt a little different, but I was kind of upset, like "Is that it, I feel like something bigger should happen." That evening as I was walking my dog along the beach after about 15 minutes I stopped and realized that I had not thought a thought for about 15 minutes. It was glorious!! My monkey mind, my incessant, fearful monkey mind had stopped bothering me for 15 glorious minutes. I felt peace. I slept amazing that night. The next two days were relatively the same. However, a few days later I woke up feeling a little discouraged that I have not had a bigger breakthrough. Thinking maybe the Kambo did some good somewhere in my subconscious, I moved on from the experience and on with my mediocre life.
Two months later... Whew, it's a long, painful, dynamic, freeing story that has arisen from deep in my soul. And while the details are irrelevant, because everyone story is different, many blocks had been removed and the core of my life essence had been freed to flow fourth. While what happened, was painful and I had to face some of my deepest fears, it all happened within a relatively short period of time, as opposed to a few of years of different karmic circumstances. Now it is my responsibility to properly transmute these emotions into a higher vibratory state. And the answer how to do that, comes with the release of these blocks.
We has humans often think we need things to happen faster, happen now! And while we need to operate on God's time, he does offer ways to expedite our spiritual awakening. If you're on the path, in my opinion, Kambo has been a large key to my puzzle.
I have done other plant work and sat in other ceremonies, the facilitator is a key aspect to a safe journey. Raymond is very present in his offering, as he creates a space of love so the divine can shine.
One year ago I underwent a major surgery that , after some complications, left my immune system compromised. I started to develop outbreaks of MRSA in various locations, all over my skin. For months I dealt with this in conventional ways. Firstly adjusting my diet to eliminate all sugars and other acid-forming foods. I tried Chinese herbs, complete juice fasts, oregano oil, MMS protocols and, after trying all the 'alternative' methods I knew, I took a course of an antibiotic, doxycilin. Nothing was working and I was sincerely worried that I wouldn't be able to get rid of this problem.
A friend of mine suggested that I try Kambo. After doing some research about kambo I realized that this medicine was exactly what was going to be able to kill the mrsa that had colonized my body. Through another friend i was connected to Raymond and we arranged for me to go through 3 kambo sessions in 28 days. After the first session I noticed a profound change in the mrsa colonies. They had hardened where before they were oozing. Each session was followed by marked improvements and by the 10th day after my third session the mrsa was completely gone and I was not having any new outbreaks. Not only was the mrsa gone but my whole being felt energized. I regained a feeling of vitality that I had not experienced for many years. My body felt young, supple, and strong. I have had 6 follow up sessions since the first three and each time I feel energized and vitalized for weeks after. Most importantly the mrsa has not returned.
I think that a big part of my healing was experiencing the medicine through the capable, compassionate hands of Raymond Naeyaert. During the ceremony Raymond is completely present, supportive and nurturing and, simultaneously, holds a very clear line going straight to the heart. Through our ceremonies we have forged a deep friendship that extends outside of the realm of ceremony and into the larger community. Raymond is a extremely gifted healer whose medicine has made a profound impact in my life. This medicine also manifests in his capacity to be a dear friend and ally along this journey. I am so grateful to have met Raymond, to have been introduced to kambo through him and, most importantly, to have a met a friend with such grace and integrity. Thank you kambo. Thank you Raymond. And thank you to all the ascendant masters who have transmitted this complex technology of the sapo medicine along down the lineages to our time.
Kambo is a powerful medicine. Its effect amplified when delivered in a way that honors the history of the practice, the culture is originated from, and the spirit of the individual. Raymond is a true shaman, gentile and strong, a carrier of ancient wisdom passed down through the spiritual practices and art of native cultures, a man I am truly honored to call a brother. As a result, the experiences he has guided me through have been powerful, healing, clensing, and enlightening. If this medicine is calling to you rest assured, you have found the right man to deliver it. It is no accident that you have found your way here.
I first did Kambo with Raymond in October and after only doing it once, I noticed a dramatic shift in my perspective in my life and a buoyancy in my body. I had taken out a birth control device a week before after experiencing depression and a lack of grounding due to its effects. I am someone who sees the tie clearly between the emotional and physical bodies and I observed a radical clarity and happiness I hadn't experienced in a long time. I could actually hear the harmony in my life and my ability to cope with stress greatly improved. I did the Kambo twice this past weekend and I feel like I sealed a crack in my soul that I have had since my childhood. This medicine is the greatest gift I have ever given myself and I am so thankful it was Raymond who administered it. He has a gentle strength that put me at ease and I feel he holds high integrity with the medicine. I literally entrusted him with my life and I am so thankful I did. I cannot say enough good things about this experience. Truly a blessing. Aho "
Article written about my work with Kambo in the Huffington Post: Kissed by a Poisonous Frog: A Powerfully Healing Medicine from the Amazon by Joel Brokaw writer and author
I am not what you might consider an impulsive risk-taker. An invitation from a friend to join with her to take a powerful but toxic-sounding medicine from the Amazon jungle sounded intriguing. On second thought….
First, consider the method of application of the venomous slime of the Giant Monkey Tree Frog (or Kambo). A drop of thick goop is patted onto fresh little burn wounds on the skin of the upper arm. This first step by itself can be a deal-breaker for many. On the bright side, any scars left afterwards look exotically tribal, like a mark from an ancient rite of passage.
This slime is responsible for the fact that this particular frog has no predators. Anacondas will quickly spit them out should they bite down on one by mistake. Within a minute or two of getting the dab of the Kambo potion, the body is said to heat up like a niacin flash from hell as the medicine/poison surges through the lymphatic system. There’s no hallucinogenic high from it. Instead, you’ll probably go low, as in bending over a bucket to throw up as many do within 10 minutes. Barfing together is a bonding experience bar none. Strangers become friends very quickly.
The little voice was telling me not to dismiss the offer without considering the body of evidence. It’s not some New Age fad. It’s legal. It has been in use for thousands of years and wouldn’t have passed the test of time if there weren’t something to it. The articles I read described how Kambo has this uncanny ability to search through the body and discover where it is needed most. Its active ingredients include over 70 peptides (small chain amino acids), compounds that are said to have enormous healing benefits. Pharmaceutical companies have snapped up dozens of patents based on these Kambo ingredients.
Some of these medicinal properties are said to have application for treatment of brain diseases (including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s), depression, migraines, blood circulation problems, fertility issues, organ diseases and many others. It is considered to be one of the strongest natural antibiotics and anesthetics found in the world. It holds the promise to empower the immune system, decrease fatigue and improve our state of health. Animal rights people will also be happy to hear that the frog is not harmed by harvesting the product—the collectors believe any mistreatment creates bad luck and bad medicine.
The invitation to the Kambo treatment/ceremony had come from my old friend Catherine Miller who is an informational magnet for these kinds of things. She has a website that encourages people to go beyond their fears to live more fully. “Do one thing every day that scares you,” read the Eleanor Roosevelt refrigerator magnet she had given me years ago. This time, after considering all of the above, I decided to take the risk and follow Mrs. Roosevelt’s advice.
Some of Catherine’s other friends were already there when I arrived, seated on floor cushions, each participant with their very own white vomit bucket. Our guide Raymond Naeyaert began talking us through what we were about to experience. Raymond had the credentials not only as a being trained in Amazonian medicine but also as a licensed nurse assistant and Ayurvedic practitioner. Part of it was no doubt to assure us that what we were about to do was safe and the range of uncomfortable if not painful sensations and reactions were normal. He asked us to confirm that we did not have a heart condition, low blood pressure or were pregnant, which would be disqualifying. “Fear is a natural emotion to feel before trying this,” he acknowledged, making it very clear to us that we were free to back out of the mission at any point.
He also went around the room and asked us to introduce ourselves and describe our intentions. Some indicated that they wanted to work on their emotional health to free up pent up feelings, break through fear-based attitudes and move forward with new vigor. Others, including myself, were not as specific, expressing an openness to go wherever the Kambo might take us.
Truth be told, I had been through some very stressful times, including the death of my father only a few weeks before. While I thought I felt okay emotionally, my body was taking the hit. Exhaustion and fatigue and a sense of feeling quite older than my 63 years were taking a firm hold. My short term memory was hardly what it used to be, forgetting if I took my nutritional supplements this morning or yesterday, or not remembering what my wife told me to buy at the store only an hour before.
Raymond explained the treatment was in two parts, the first a preparatory step that was optional. Rapé is a sacred shamanic medicine, a snuff made of a very powerful strand of tobacco and other herbs that are blown into our nostrils by the practitioner via a pipe made of bone or bamboo. “Take a deep breath and hold it,” Raymond whispered into my ear before placing the small bowl of the pipe in contact with my left nostril. Poof! It felt like a tear gas and mace attack in the first few seconds but soon thereafter the beneficial neurotransmitter compounds starting doing their stuff. I understood why hunters traditionally imbibed before going out to catch their prey. I could feel an expanding focus, intuition and awareness. Sight and sound were more vibrant. Negative emotions, including those I felt right after taking this snuff, melted away. It was all setting the table for the main course.
“Don’t look, stare instead at the candle,” advised Raymond as he made burn hole after burn hole on me, five in all, three on one arm and two on the other. It did not sting, at least not immediately. Meticulously, he administered the slime on each spot, and then placed a few drops of water on each to activate the process. For about 30 seconds, nothing happened, and then the trap door opened. The rush of heat flashed through my system. I started to feel very uncomfortable as if no shift in seating posture would give relief. Then I felt like my whole nervous system started to tremble from my core out to my extremities. “Wow, this is what it feels like to be poisoned,” I thought first. Each minute seemed like an hour. Was this ever going to end? Then very dramatically, it did, perhaps 10 minutes later. The whole ordeal wasn’t so bad, I concluded. Some had already gone before me and others would follow. A few vomited and got quite violently ill, needing to lie down for quite a while to recover. Others like myself suffered less obviously and didn’t soil our buckets.
The Kambo protocol is to have 3 sessions within one moon cycle (month). I had a wait and see attitude as I got into my car and drove home later that evening. The next morning I felt a bit hung over but no worse for wear. By the second day, the positive transformation was indisputable. It felt like my whole nervous system had been rewired. I suddenly couldn’t bear the thought of coffee, my favorite drug. The fatigue that had a choke hold on me had likewise vanished replaced by an almost boundless energy of a 20 year old. My wife said my eyes looked clearer and sharper and remarked that my sense of humor seemed much improved. My exercise program was suddenly much more effortless with improved recovery time. My general malaise was gone, and it felt somehow like I had recaptured the vitality of my younger years.
I signed up for the second session one week later. The Kambo dose was increased by one spot—but I seemed to tolerate it much better. No ill effects. Three days later, I was there for the third and last one, again increasing my dose to now 7 spots. There was only a mother and adult daughter there for the ceremony, first timers. I was the only experienced one and told them with confidence how great it had been, and how I had fared pretty well with it. I went first, and sure enough, within minutes, I gave them quite an entertaining display of projectile bile into the bucket. After a quick trip to the bathroom, I came back very much to life, much to the relief of my compatriots. Raymond commended me for finally letting go (and letting it rip). I never knew spewing could make me feel so good.
It is now a couple of weeks after, and all the amazingly positive effects seem to be holding steady. So when Raymond comes back into town again in a few months with his medicine, I’ll gladly roll up my arm for my booster. It was a risk that truly paid off! article. link: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/kissed-by-a-poisonous-frog-a-powerfully-healing-medicine_us_586c00c1e4b068764965c4d6?timestamp=1483475445684
I wanted to share about my first experience of Kambo. Though I have had some experiences with other medicines, I had never heard of Kambo before the other week. I was introduced to Raymond and the work through a trusted friend. Everything lined up for me to participate and so I did. Before I even had heard of the medicine or decided to do it, the Spirit of Kambo was with me, bringing dreams. The night before the Ceremony I had a very powerful experience where a childhood friend came to me. I had thought about this person off and on for years but was never able to get any more information..until that evening when I discovered something terrible had befallen him several years earlier. I had no idea why after years of not being able to get any information it would all of a sudden open up...Then I remembered....We saved frogs together as boys. We would rescue them after it rained and they had gotten trapped in basement window wells..... That was how the experience started for me, on the inner planes before I had even heard of it, it was calling me. Since then, my experience has been deep. My intention was to let go of addictions and habituation specifically in regards to tobacco. I had gotten in wrong relationship with this very powerful medicine plant and was injuring myself through my disregard of appropriate use. I actually had no plan for how or when I would right this situation, just a prayer. My physical experience with Kambo was intense, though perhaps not as intense as some others. The interesting thing was what happened after. I recognized another habit of mind that I have, the ability to make even the most profound experience mundane and commonplace. After the Ceremony, instead of just picking up my day and filling my space with whatever, I went home and chose to be in a more prayerful state. The way it was presented to me in my inner world was something like this " you have just participated in an ancient healing ritual, preserved for millennia by our indigenous selves and delivered to you here in this modern world by the calling of your Spirit. How could this be just another day..and if you treat it that way, whats the point ? " That has been the psycho/spiritual grounding since the ceremony. That this is an amazingly powerful time calling forth amazingly powerful people being given amazingly powerful medicine tools to use to remember with and reclaim our lives and return to balance with our Mother Earth. Without planning to do so, I have been tobacco free since Saturday
