Ecuadorian Amazon Ayahuasca
&
Medicine Plant Retreat

A deep exploration of healing with the The amazonian shamans of the Napusamai.

In the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador lives the Andi Vargas family. A family who is not only steeped heavily in the tradition of Shamanism, but lives in harmony with the land, functioning in eco sustainability, and welcomes you to come and heal, awaken and remember who you are. A Journey were the medicine of Ayahuasca will immerse your being with the heart of the people, the strength of the Jaguar, and the calling of ancient jungle(Pachamama). If you are looking for an experience of transformation and guidance from one of the most genuine family of healers I have ever met in over 25 years of traveling, then look no further. Here, you find solace, peace, kindness, and a sincere welcome from the entire family of the Napusamai.

The retreat takes place in Pasourcu Lodge, near Tena, in the Napo region.  In the Kichwa community of Kuyaloma in the Amazon. In the words of the
Napusamai people "We still live where our elders lived, we live with our own traditional customs and beliefs. We use the wisdom that we have gained from mother nature and passed down to us. Our duty is to practice and preserve this wise knowledge of our elders from hundreds of years ago by practicing the use of medicinal plants for physical and spiritual healing, primarily through the use of Ayahuasca and other medicinal plants."

Mission Statement

It is my nature to help others find self-empowerment through the ancient practice and rituals known as the rites of passage. A tradition that has been lost in many ways to the modern western culture.  As your host on this journey, I will hold and create a safe container for you to allow the transformation and connection to the levels of inner pachas (worlds). This journey of reconnecting with Pachamama (Mother Earth) of the Amazon and her medicines will ground you into the awareness our true nature. Bridging earth based ceremony along with Amazonian medicine known as Ayahuasca lead by Maestros Don Luis Andi and son Don Juan Andi to assist you into a more whole and healed state of being. Along with me< Daniel Heras who will be our translator on this journey is also a practitioner in training like myself in this ancient art. Together we look forward to being in service to you and the deepening of your path of connection and awakening. In Munay...Raymond

Meet The Shamans

Picture
Don Luis Andi Yachac
At 65 years old, Don Luis is a highly respected shaman (Yachac Curaca-wise),
with a legacy passed down by his ancestors.  Don Luis and his family
have acquired knowledge from 25 leading scholars of traditional
medicine from different cultures in this region, Ecuador, and Peru.

For more than 38 years, shaman Don Luis been practicing the use
of over 2000 medicinal plants of the forest to purify the body in the treatment
of all forms of diseases and cleanse the spiritual energy with special ceremonies
using essences extracted from the plants of the Amazon.

Don Luis will guide you through your journey as you come to experience the sacred plant of ayahuasca.

Don Juan Andi Vargas
addition to this Juan Andi, son, and assistant to Don Luis and Inés is 44 years of age and  shares much of the knowledge and practices of his father. He also obtained much knowledge from his grandparents who taught him from an early age. He also works with other teachers and shamans to support the work of his family and organizes the ayahuasca retreats here at Napusamai Ayahuasca Lodge, Kuyaloma. Juan also is an engineer in tourism enterprises by profession.

Dona Ines Vargas
At the age of 66 years, Doña Inés still works with her husband
during Ayahuasca ceremonies. After meeting Dona,
you can feel the good medicine and her positive
energy is
important in the preparation of the sacred plant of Ayahuasca.
She is responsible for controlling the strength of the plant
and looks after our guests after the ceremonies.
Dona is also very knowledgable in
other plants used to clean
or remove any negative effects during the healing process.

Ireña Andi Vargas
Wife of Don Juan Andi also plays an important role in the preparation of the sacred plant of Ayahuasca.
She is also responsible for helping with logistics and taking care of the guests.

Once we enter the jungle and arrive at Pasourcu village is where the real journey begins.

Once we arrive we will get settled in to our cabins and have a meeting to go over our schedule, meet the family who we are guests of and answer any questions you have, followed by dinner, Suana, and settling in for the evening.

Cabins

Each cabin had two beds, which we will all be bunking with someone. Each cabin is equipped with a shower, toilet, sink, bed & nets, blankets, and fresh sheets. These cabins are very clean, but simple. We will be living in close quarters an get to know each other very well.

Kitchen and Kitchen Staff

The kitchen staff are simply incredible. Rodriguez and Fidel are so full of kindness, sincerity, and love preparing fresh, local, and organic food gathered from the fully sustainable farm and community.

Day 3
Herbal Saunas to purify the body before the ceremony that evening.

Gathering and Preparing the Ayahuasca Medicine.

In this Tradition the women are responsible for cooking the medicine. The women bare the balance of power by infusing their gift and working with the spirit of the vine. The mother ayahuasca in my opinion should only be prepared by the feminine spirit. We help collect and prepare it for the women. The Ayahuasca plant (Banisteriopsis Caapi) is best when harvested during the afternoon.  We humbly ask permission before harvesting the Ayahuasca. The plant is cooked in water withthe leaves of the Challypanga plant (Diploterys cabrerana). The medicine remains at a high heat for 3 to 4 hours, until we have a high concentration and then the vinesand leaves are removed from the brew. The remaining medicine is left on a low heat for 30 minutes moreand thereafter is ready for the ceremony.

Maloka-Ceremonial Space

In the evening we will gather at the Maloka for ceremony. Each person will have their own mattress to lie on during the ceremony. Don Luis Andi and Don Juan Andi will be the Maestros for the entire week of ceremonies. We will be doing a total of 6 ceremonies over the course of the work and private sessions for deeper healing work will be available. One thing to always remember when entering the Maloka is to remove your shoes before entering this sacred space. In general we do this in our rooms and kitchen area to keep the space clean.

Plant Medicine and Nature Walks

Medicinal Plant Treatments and Purgatives

over the course of your stay, you will be receiving several treatments to clean and purify your blood. This includes a 21 plant medicine formula you drink after meals, tobacco placed in nostrils, drinking a plant mixture to purge and also drinking tobacco juice.

Journey to Sacred site called Spirit Rock

On one of the days of our walks into the jungle we will visit a sacred place to pay our respect to the land and set our intentions deeper as we prepare for the ayahuasca ceremony that evening. This place is powerful and in one of only a couple very large stones that was seen in the forest weighing in at several tons.

Working with the Healing Blue Clay

You will have several opportunities to bath each day down by the waterfall and cover yourself in the locally harvested blue clay. Extremely good for the skin and drawing toxins from the body.

Sweat Lodge Ceremony

Tree Planting

Collecting, Preparing, and Processing Cocoa.

You will have an opportunity once we finish with all our ceremonies to prepare, make, and eat the wonderful Cocoa that grows on the property.
